We are big fans of Anime and Manga at my house so this book was a treat for me. There is a lot of folklore and legends sprinkled throughout the story, and the way the shamans are able to use the spirits is really interesting. The story is about a girl named Aika who didn't know that her deceased father was a shaman, and she has inherited his abilities. She is a special type of shaman that hasn't been seen in hundreds of years, so she has to learn some of her abilities on her own. When her mother is kidnapped by a giant toad for cursed man she has to team up with a guy who is trying to buy out her mother's business and his cousin, both of whom are also shamans. One of my favorite things is that Raiden, the cousin, is able to use the spirit of a dead samurai while fighting.

There is no explicit adult content in this story, but I would guess this is building the world and story line for the rest of the series as it is being described as a reverse harem book. There is some nudity, and violence. I would say older teen and up would be good.

There is a lot of culture references and Japanese words but there is a glossary at the beginning to look things up. In all I think it's a good beginning to a series that has a lot of potential. If you like Japanese culture, and folklore I recommend picking this one up.

You can find it on Amazon at the following link and it is in KU:
