By night, he can be found traipsing through the wilds of Pennsylvania, making the world safe for humans. He’s more than just a mechanic, he’s a New Templar Knight. He travels the backroads and byways fighting weresquonks, ningen, selkies, ghosts, and…gnomes? Is that gnome…naked? (sigh).

Snarky Monster Hunting in the Wilds of Pennsylvania

By Gail Z. Martin and Larry N. Martin

Mark Wojcik (pronounced Voy-chick) is a mechanic and monster hunter. When a wendigo killed his father, brother, uncle and cousin while they were all on a deer hunt, Mark killed the wendigo. He decided to keep hunting the things that go bump in the night so that other people didn’t experience the same tragic loss that changed his life.

Mark is based up in the far corner of Northwestern Pennsylvania, in a little town called Atlantic. He has good friends who help him with research and back him up on his hunts. He doesn’t have any ninja powers, magic, or even ex-military mojo. He’s just a guy trying to do the right thing, going up against monsters most people don’t even know are there. Snarky humor is definitely a coping mechanism.

Larry and I are from the area where Mark does his hunts. We grew up there, and it’s a lot of fun using the folklore and urban legends to build stories will hopefully give you a fright and also make you laugh and snort coffee out of your nose!

The Spells, Salt and Steel series is part of the Bubba the Monster Hunter universe originated by John Hartness, and loosely ties together with all of the other regional series set in that world.
