Sam’s throat suddenly went dry. So this was what he thought it was. It was almost a week since their first kiss and it hit him like a nail on the head that he was already in love. “We’ll see about that.” He knocked against the kitchen counter. “Don’t think this will last, though.”
He loved watching her brows rise with surprise whenever he flirted with her. “Sam!” A bright red flush colored her cheeks and Sam knew he wasn’t going to wait another second.
He stood and walked around the counter. He flicked off the stove and reached around her waist to untie the adorable apron she wore to protect her clothes. “I’m not waiting anymore, Lisa. I’ve waited for more than ten years –”
Lisa’s eyes widened. “What?”
“Yeah, you heard me,” Sam said a little gruffly. “I wanted you back in high school but you just wanted Burke. I’m done waiting, Lisa, it’s time for this to happen. If you want me to leave, you better speak up because once I drop this apron I’m not going anywhere.”
He watched her pupils dilate, her breath quicken, and her eyes darken with need. “I’m not saying anything…”
Sam reached for his Stetson, tugged it off and tossed it aside. He wouldn’t need it for the rest of the night. He had everything he needed in his arms.
