Spending a few minutes with Danielle DeVor

An Interview

with

Author Danielle DeVor

Genre: Horror/Dark Fantasy

Bio

Named one of the Examiner’s 2014 Women in Horror: 93 Horror Authors you Need to Read Right Now, Danielle DeVor has been spinning the spider webs, or rather, the keyboard for more frights and oddities. She spent her early years fantasizing about vampires and watching “Salem’s Lot” way too many times. When not writing and reading about weird things, you will find her hanging out at the nearest coffee shop, enjoying a mocha frappuccino.

Welcome to Jena’s Bookworms

Tell us about your writing career. How long have you been writing?

I’ve been writing for almost as long as I can remember, but I started writing professionally in 2012. Over the years I’ve written poetry, music, plays, screenplays, and then I finally gravitated toward prose.

How did you choose your genre?

It chose me. Seriously. I am a confirmed horror film addict.

Tell us a little about the books you’ve published. Series, or stand-alone?

The Marker Chronicles: Sorrow’s Point (out now), Sorrow’s Edge(out now), Sorrow’s Turn(out now), Sorrow’s Lie (October 2017), Sorrow’s End(2018)—Box set of first three novels (august 8, 2017)
Riding on the Tail of the Devil-stand alone (expected publication date 2019)
Constructing Marcus- stand alone (Publication date 2018)
All the Pretty Little Horses- stand alone (Expected publication date 2019)
Maw- stand alone (Publication date 2018)

Wow, that's a lot of books. What inspires your work?

Anything? Sometimes it is something I spied in a film that will get me thinking about something. Other times it is as simple as taking a bath.

Many Authors will relate to that. Who are your favorite authors, and what is it that draws you to them?

Richard Matheson—his grasp of desperation, Anne Rice—her sense of romance amidst horror, Stephen king—his imagination

Are you working on a story now?

I am working on Sorrow’s End, book 5 of the Marker Chronicles and in the planning stages on a book I’m calling Strigoi.

Please tell us more about it.

I gave myself the challenge to write a story featuring vampires that only uses one type of vampire listed in Folklore. I chose the Strigoi because there is a really large bevy of information that will be useful in terms of building the novel.

What do you anticipate your release date to be?

No idea. My closest release date is for The Marker Chronicles box set on August 8th, 2017.

Any stories sitting on the back-burner?

I have this story about some evil ballet shoes tucked into my bookcases.
