A Moment with A. Bello

Tell us a little bit about why you write in your chosen genre, and if you have books in other genres as well.

I wrote in this genre because growing up fantasy was my favorite type of books. I just think it’s more imaginative and creative. I can create my own world and let my imagination run wild. There are no rules really apart from good should always defeat evil but no one wants the bad guy to win anyway! Have just finished a fiction YA book based on the dance world called Beats, Love and high top trainers. That was a fun one to write as I am a dancer and have grown up around dancers, so sharing that world was definitely interesting!

Tell us about your first book.

Emily Knight I am… is about a 13-year-old warrior named Emily who is rich, privileged and very talented. Destined to be the new hero of her generation. Daughter of a legendary warrior but she can’t control her powers. She doesn’t feel worthy enough for the role. She is sent to The Osaki Training School where she learns to fly, breath under water, create fireballs and battle but when she has to chose between the two people she loves, Emily has to make a decision that can change everything for all warriors. I am so proud of this book because it has such a diverse cast and has a strong female lead character.

Was it a series?
Yes

What is your most current book?

Emily Knight I am…Awakened. This is the second book in the series. This book is a lot darker than the first and it’s all about the warriors picking a side – good vs evil. Emily is definitely tested more in this book and she has to get stronger, smarter and more fierce because now there is a target on her back. On a happier note, one of the main characters discovers their hidden power!
Is it a series?
Yes

New books are so exciting. Can we expect anything new from you soon?

Emily Knight I am…Awakened is out on September 28th and my dance story called Beats, Love and high top trainers is currently doing the rounds with the publishers so hopefully a good deal will be offered.

Do you have stories planned or that you’ve been working on for the future?

Yes I currently have 2 I’m working on-  book 3 in the Emily Knight series and a new fantasy YA book. I have an idea for two adult books, which I surprised myself with. I have never written an adult book so I will see if it’s something I enjoy but I like the ideas I have for it.

Some stories have strong themes. How important are themes in your writing? Is your theme based on the story, or are your stories birthed from a theme/or themes?

Themes are very important. My theme is definitely diversity and strong female characters fighting just as hard as the guys! Also a theme is realizing how strong we are – regardless of age or race. Diversity wasn’t something I thought of when I wrote the book but I’m so glad that people associate the book with being diverse.

What other stories have you written?

I have written loads of stories when I was a kid about witches, dragons and my take on The Babysitters Club featuring all of my friends but the Emily Knight series is the only ones published for now.

I love to bounce around websites because I’ve found I can learn so much about an Author there. Do you have a website, or other place where you showcase your work? www.a-bello.com I have a section that is just visuals. Pictures that inspire me and my world. Also my Instagram is a good way to learn more about me and my work @abiolabello

So many Authors are artists by nature. Do you have any other artwork, or hobbies you do on a consistent basis?

I used to dance professionally but still teach Street Dance to young people.

What were your passions growing up?

Dance, Sports, reading and writing. I used to be a really fast runner and was asked to join a running club for young people that they wanted to train for the Olympics but I was more interested in dancing lol.

Thank you for joining me today. I’m looking forward to seeing the books you’ll be showcasing in the future.

Thank you!
