A killer is hiding in Plain sight…

The hunt for a serial killer leads Homicide Detective Josiah Troyer back to his Amish roots. To catch a madman preying on young women, Joe must return to Lancaster County and regain the trust of a shattered community.

The FBI knows Joe is the best chance they have of solving this case. By returning to Lancaster, he will face shunning, and resentment from the people he once called family and friends.

Hannah’s heart was broken when Josiah abandoned her eight-years ago to live with the Englishers. Forced to wed a man not of her choosing, her husband’s untimely death has left her struggling to put her life back together.

When unspeakable tragedy strikes again, Josiah unexpectedly returns, investigating the murder of her sister and two other young Amish women. Hannah quickly discovers the man that’s come back is not the same one she fell in love with.

Gone are Josiah’s easy smiles and gentle ways. He’s harder, colder—a true Englisher… But not even shunning can stop the attraction from consuming them both, and Josiah soon opens Hannah’s eyes to a world of passion and pleasure she never imagined. Choosing Josiah would mean walking away from the only world she’s ever known.

Josiah’s investigation begins to unravel when he discovers the killer is closer than he thought. Soon, he’s in a race against time to save the only woman he’s ever loved before she becomes the next victim.

Interview with the Author

Welcome to JB’s Bookworms with Brandy Mulder

Tell us a little bit about why you write in your chosen genre, and if you have books in other genres as well.

Hi! Thank you for inviting me to share with you and your followers about my new release, Vow of Silence. I started writing romantic suspense a few years ago when I wrote the spinoff book Beneath the Surface for my sports romance series, Against the Cage. I fell in love with writing stories that delved into the mind of a killer, while writing the romance of my hero and heroine. Romantic suspense really is the best of both words and takes the story to a deeper level.

What was the title of your first book, and what was/is it about?

My first book is Win by Submission. It’s a sports romance about an MMA fighter who is injured in the ring. Cole’s spinal cord injury puts him in a wheelchair and his coach sends him to a small town in Wisconsin for rehab with a physical therapist that specializes in sports injuries. She’s dealing with her own demons and together they tackle the obstacles and rocky road of physical and emotional healing.

Was it a series?

Win by Submission is the first of my 5-book Against the Cage Series.

The first book seems to be the most difficult to get off the ground. What inspired you to write it?

I’m a diehard MMA fan and wanted to write a small-town romance. I decided to combine the two things I loved, and the story basically wrote itself.

What is your most current book? (If different from first book)

My latest release is Vow of Silence. I wanted to tackle the challenge of writing a story about an Amish heroine that is a suspenseful, heated romance. This is not a sweet “Amish story.” I’m no Beverly Lewis. This is a suspenseful, mildly-disturbing story about a serial killer, murdering Amish girls in Lancaster County and a police detective that returns to his Amish roots to catch a killer. The suspense is high and the romance is hot. There is a taste of culture, but this is definitely a contemporary romantic suspense.

Is it a series?

Vow of Silence was written as a stand-alone, however there are characters introduced in the story that opens the door for this book to become the first of a series if that’s the direction my publisher decides to take this.

Can you share a little bit about your main character’s, and what drives them?

Josiah Troyer (Joe) is a homicide detective that left Lancaster before taking his vows when the woman he wanted to marry was promised to someone else. He swore he’d never to return, but when the FBI enlists his help in tracking down a killer, Joe can’t refuse when he discovers the devil’s playground is in Lancaster, and the killer’s latest victim is the sister of the only woman he’s ever loved.

Hannah’s heart was broken when Josiah abandoned her to live with Englishers. Forced to wed a man not of her choosing, her husband’s untimely death has left her struggling to put her life back together. When unspeakable tragedy strikes again, Josiah unexpectedly returns, but he hasn’t come back for her—he’s investigating the murder of her sister and two other young Amish women.

Seeing Josiah brings all those long-denied feelings flooding back, as well as the hurt, anger, and abandonment that left her devastated eight years ago. Hannah quickly discovers the man who’s returned is not the same one she fell in love with. Gone are Josiah’s easy smiles and gentle ways. He’s harder, colder—an outsider… But not even his shunning can stop the attraction from consuming them both, and Josiah soon opens her eyes to a world of passion and pleasure Hannah never imagined. Choosing him would mean walking away from the only world she’s ever known.

Some stories have strong themes. How important are themes in your writing? Is your theme based on the story, or are your stories birthed from a theme/or themes?

I don’t build my stories around a specific theme. There are times important issues come through in a story, but it’s never intentional or from a personal agenda. My books are not platforms, just stories with imperfect characters that are endearing and relatable.

What other stories have you written?

1. Win by Submission—Sports Romance

2. Passing His Guard—Sports Romance

3. Fighting for Control—Sports Romance

4. Beneath the Surface—Romantic Suspense

5. Grappling for Position—Sports Romance

6. In for the Win—Sports Romance

7. One and Done—Vacation Romance

8. Vow of Silence—Romantic Suspense (New release)

9. Balls Deep—Sports Romance (Releasing 8/12/19)

So many Authors are artists by nature. Do you have any other artwork or hobbies you do on a consistent basis?

I have no artistic hobbies. All my creative energy goes into writing. 😊

What were your passions growing up?

I don’t recall having any specific passions in my youth. I think I was mostly concerned with the typical struggles of adolescence and discovering who I was and becoming the person God designed me to be.

What are your passions now?

I’m passionate about my faith and my family. I’m very introvert and all my free time is invested in my peeps.
