Where My Idea Came From

By Author R.S. Broadhead

Halloween is my favorite holiday! I love a good scare, so I wanted to create something that would make people cringe with fright, especially if they heard a knock on their door in the middle of the night. I knew I wanted to try something a little more on the creepy side since I usually write paranormal romance with some fantasy elements thrown in. Urban Legends was a great thing to tackle because these are stories that are passed around and lots of people claim to have experienced some of these things. Plus using Urban Legends would allow me to create a series of stand-alone books. Next October the second book will release. I haven’t fully decided between Bloody Mary or the Hook Man yet. I just knew that black-eyed children needed to be the first because that story scared me the most out of any of them.

When you google BEK or black-eyed children there are tons of real life stories. Real life makes things scarier in my opinion. But in most cases, when you read these stories no one knows why these kids show up or what happens IF you let them in. So I wanted to take this concept and create my own spin on it. Kind of like the movie Devil’s Pass. If you haven’t seen it, do! It’s so good. They took something that happened that no one could explain and created an in depth story about it that literally blows you away. That’s what I wanted to do with this book. I researched and researched, and read every story I could find on BEKs. Believe me, some of that stuff is crazy freaky. The thought of some kid showing up at your house in the middle of the night with solid black eyes? Come on. I would shit my pants.

So if you hear a knock late at night be careful. You never know who or what is on the other side!
