Abby Callier is more in love with Shakespearean heroes than any real man, and she’s beginning to wonder if there is life for her outside the pages of a book. It doesn’t help that her esteemed parents tend to view her as they would one of their science experiments gone wrong. On the eve of finishing her dissertation, she escapes her staid existence to live in the house she inherited from her Great Aunt Evie in the small town of Echo Springs, Colorado. Because, let’s face it, when a woman starts comparing her life to horror films, it might be time for a break.

Sheriff Nate Barnes believes in law and order and carefully building the life you want. In his spare time, he has been remodeling his house in the hope that one day it will be filled with the family he makes. But Nate doesn’t like drama or complications and tends to avoid them at all costs. And yet, when Miss Abigail Callier, his newest neighbor, beans him with a nine iron, he can’t help but wonder if she might just be the complication he’s been searching for all along. It doesn’t hurt that he discovers a journal hidden away by the previous tenant and decides to use Old Man Turner’s advice to romance Abby into his life.
Abby never expected her next-door neighbor, the newly dubbed Sheriff Stud Muffin, to be just the distraction her world needed.

The problem is she doesn’t know whether she should make Echo Springs her home, or if this town is just a stopover point in her life’s trajectory. And she doesn’t want to tell Nate that she might not be sticking around—even though she should because it’s the right thing to do, the honest thing—because then all the scintillatingly hot kisses with the Sheriff will come to an abrupt halt. Did she mention that he’s a really great kisser?

A Quirky Interview with

Author Maggie Mae Gallagher

Welcome to JB’s Bookworms with Brandy Mulder, and Mandy Clark now too.
Thank you so much for having me, Brandy!

What made you decide you wanted to write?
I think I’ve always been a writer. When I was a teenager, I wrote reams of excruciatingly bad poetry trying to style myself into the next Emily Dickinson. It wasn’t until after college, when I was at my first grown-up job and hating it, when I tried my hand at writing a book. It was love at first draft for me and I haven’t looked back.

What inspired your first story?
My very first story, a romantic suspense, that I have never published (nor will it ever be) was inspired by the sort of action, adventure romances at the time like Romancing the Stone or the original Mummy film with Brendan Fraser. And I realize that just dated me.

Indeed. What sort of people or writers inspire you?
I like people who use their power and influence to change the world for good, to speak up and be a voice for those less fortunate and use their platform to enact positive change. There are so many writers I just adore who have inspired my career: Heather Graham, Kristan Higgins, Karen Marie Moning, Dean Koontz, and this list could go on to infinity.

Tell us about your books.
I write strong, feisty heroines, and alpha heroes with hearts of gold. The paranormal titles were my first forays into publishing, and I’ve switched genres over to contemporary romance with the debut of my new Echo Springs Series. I may go back to paranormal at some point and do have the last book in my urban fantasy series left to complete. I also write super-sexy erotic romance under the name, Anya Summers, but I will warn you they are hot!!

Do you have any quirky or hard-headed characters?
I have both. There’s really no rhyme or reason to it either. Some of my characters talk to me like it’s a drink and dial session. Others sit in a corner with their arms crossed with a mulish expression not wanting to say a word. And then the quirky one’s who tend to appear a bit like Luna Lovegood, where they are completely in another world that none of the rest of us see.

If you were a character or creature in one of your stories, what would you be with your personality, and why?
I’d probably be the best friend or side kick to the heroine.

If you could disappear into any fantasy world you’ve read, (aside from your own), which would it be?
Oh my goodness, too many places to go. I would love to go to Jill Shalvis’s Lucky Harbor or Karen Marie Moning’s Fever World, granted I would get Jericho Barrons, or Middle Earth where I would save Thorin Oakenshield, as played by Richard Armitage, and become his queen because he would fall madly in love with me.

Your lost in that story right now, and best friends with your antagonist. Tell us about your relationship.
I’m going to go with the first place I mentioned. Then we would be meeting me for drinks at the Love Shack in Lucky Harbor and likely challenging me to a game of pool where we would be each other’s wing woman and help each other get our guy.

If you were a fantasy creature, what would you want to be?
An Elf in Middle Earth.

I love bouncing around with alternative choices, so …
Angel or demon?  -- Angel. It’s the wings.

Fairy or Witch?  -- Fairy, because they possess all the magic a witch does and then some.

Land or air? -- Air, but mainly because I like feeling the wind blow across my face on the rare moments that I venture forth into the world.

City or Country? -- City, although I must admit the older I get the further out into suburbia toward the country I head.

Candy or Cake? -- As long as it is chocolate, I would pick Candy.

Red or blue? -- I must go with red on this one. I love red, even my sofa set is red. Although, my car is bright blue. I have issues of not being able to choose just one.

Black or White? -- Black. It hides so much. Except my cat’s white fur. But everything else, it does. 😉

Coffee or Tea? -- Give me coffee or give me death.

Music or Television? -- Music when I’m driving or cleaning, but for relaxing in the evenings I tend to gravitate to the television.

Paperback or Kindle? -- I read both. Lately though, I’ve been doing everything on kindle.

Boat or Plane? -- Plane

Christmas or Halloween? -- Halloween, of course! I’m the fourth Sanderson sister. And if you know that reference, we can be besties!

Is there anything you’ve really wanted to do that you’ve never done? -- I’m on an Ireland or bust kick. In fact, I want to add world traveler to my resume. But I’ve never been out of the US.

Are there any books planned for the future that we can look forward too? -- Yes. I always have more books. The next three books in this series will be out over the next year. Up next in the Echo Springs Series is Civil Disobedience with the sexy Miles Keaton.

Do you have a website? -- Yes, I do. And in fact, I just had it redone and it’s gorgeous!

Author Bio:

Born in St. Louis, Missouri, Maggie grew up listening to Cardinals baseball and reading anything she could get her hands on. She remembers her mother saying if only she would read the right type of books instead binging her way through the romance aisles at the bookstore, she’d have been a doctor. While Maggie never did get that doctorate, she graduated cum laude from the University of Missouri-St. Louis with an M.A. in History.

Maggie is a bestselling and award-winning author published in multiple fiction genres. She also writes erotic romance under the name Anya Summers. A total geek at her core, when she is not writing, she adores attending the latest comic con or spending time with her family. She currently lives in the Midwest with her two furry felines.
