CONQUEST by R. M. Mulder ***A Brandy's Book Nook Review -- Character Interview with Lily Thatcher***
The future of mankind is in the hands of one woman—but only she can See it.
Over the last five hundred years, Timur Demyan has used his ungodly powers to decimate countless empires. Now, the immortal villain stands as the CEO of the company that has developed DarkForce, the most popular augmented reality video game in the world. What gamers don’t know is that DarkForce has been patterned after an alien planet inhabited by the Leviathan, a loathsome creature with whom Timur has forged an alliance.
Undercover operative Lily Thatcher has only just begun to unlock innate Seer abilities that allow her to witness past, present and potential future events after she overcame certain death. Now dragged away to another world with a sentient dragon by her side, will her powers be enough to stop Timur and prevent Earth’s apocalyptic fate?

Character Interview
Meet Lily Thatcher
Welcome to JB's Bookworms with Brandy Mulder.
Tell us about your story
Hi, my name is Lily Thatcher... well, that's my pseudonym anyway. I'm a government agent, and if I told you my real name or where I work I'd have to kill you.
Hi, my name is Lily Thatcher... well, that's my pseudonym anyway. I'm a government agent, and if I told you my real name or where I work I'd have to kill you.
Jena pales.
I'M KIDDING!
But for real though, I would have to send you to a local Decommissioning Chamber to erase your memory... and some of the known side effects after undergoing the procedure have included additional memory loss, personality disorders, manic depression, severe anxiety, and dementia... so let's just not push for too many details about me. Okay? Good. I'm glad we're on the same page.
So... you want me to tell you about my story? Okay, well... where should I start?
From the beginning. All right. You see, a few years ago I was assigned to closely monitor a High Profile suspect named Allan Young. I'm not allowed to share details specifically about why my agency has been monitoring him, but I can tell you this: they've got the wrong guy.
You see, they assigned me to get close to him, so I did just that... and, well... last night he proposed to me
. And you can't tell my commanding officer I told you this, but I accidentally fell in love with him...
I know, I know. I never should have led him on this far... but now I don't know what to do. I haven't answered his proposal yet. Why? Well... I would have to get permission from my commanding officer first. And that's never gonna happen. So what should I do?
Oh, and it gets worse. See, he's currently in police custody as the primary suspect of murder.
But I swear to you he's innocent! I don't care if I lose my job. I'll prove it!

But I swear to you he's innocent! I don't care if I lose my job. I'll prove it!
What part do you play in it?
Well, Allan and I share roles as protagonists but I think I take most of the center stage. See, while I was trying to clear Allan's name, I wound up getting knocked unconscious and abducted by that creep Timur Demyan (who also just so happens to be the CEO of the company I use as my cover job). I'm quite a resourceful woman though, so fortunately I found a way to escape Timur's clutches. But trying to find my way back to Chicago has proven a bit daunting. Somehow he dragged me away to some exotic jungle with an ancient city at the heart of it that I don't recognize. I'm a bit worried that he drugged me too because I've started hallucinating and I swear those giant flying creatures in the sky look like dragons out of some fairytale...
Is Conquest scary then? or is it a love story?
I'd have to say both. As for Allan, he's turned this whole situation into his personal quest to save me as if I were some helpless damsel in distress
Have you heard any good gossip lately?
Gossip? Lol. That's basically my job. I'm an informant, so everything I report back to the agency each morning is studied and analyzed thoroughly.
If you could be anything you want to be, what would you be?
Seriously? I wish I were a normal woman without all this undercover agent nonsense. I once thought that I had full control over my destiny - but now I feel more lost and hopeless than I've ever felt before in my entire life
Why?
What are you, a shrink? I'm strong and I'll get through this. Just give me some time.
Where would you live?
Well, obviously with Allan in his house - but that's never gonna happen. He's offered to let me move in with him several times and I've been tempted to accept. I even have some of my clothes over there at his place and I've stayed overnight often (if you know what I mean
Where do you live now?
I have an apartment just north of Chicago. I'd absolutely love to move in with Allan - but the main problem is that I have to check in with my commanding officer every morning, and all my tech equipment is hidden behind a false wall in my apartment. I'm afraid that if Allan and I lived under the same roof, my cover would eventually get blown.
Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?
Have you not been listening this whole time? 🤣
What would they think about the change?
Change? Oh, you mean moving in with him? He'd swoon!
Who is the scariest person in your story?
Timur Demyan, by far. Although I overheard him once talking about someone he referred to as "The Leviathan", and I could've sworn it sounded like Timur was terrified of him
Who is the happiest?
I'll be honest... our's is a bit of a dark story with a pre-apocalyptic tone, so any happiness that myself or any of the other characters may have experienced during this story was brief and fleeting.
That makes me wonder what your author's like?
Honestly? I think he's a total jerk. He ruined my life! I was just fine, just doing my job and doing it well. I even had a previous boyfriend named Jason that I planned to go back to once this assignment was over... but not only did he mess with my mind and make me fall in love with Allan, but do you remember how I mentioned that Allan is currently in police custody as the primary suspect of murder? Well, here's the hardest pill I had to swallow
That's some Author. Do you think he portrayed your part well?
I have to admit that yes, he captured the essence of my character extremely well. But that still doesn't excuse his terrible behavior!
I know. Just lay down and relax on the couch behind you, and everything will be okay. Do you have any pictures you want to share?
I typically don't share pictures of myself due to my line of employment, however my cover is probably going to get blown anyway because that idiot author slapped my picture right on the front of his book!
What's with the dragon, you ask? Well, I'm hoping she's just part of my hallucinations. She almost killed me with venom from her talons, and ever since I woke up she won't leave my side. Her name is Tiamat. How do I know this? You see, a phenomenon occurs whenever I place my hand on her scaly hide: somehow, I'm able to hear her thoughts and I can speak with her 🤷♀️. Have I gone crazy?
I think you might have. Thanks for being with us today.

This book is an interesting mix of different things. At first I thought this was going to be a LIT RPG with the way it starts, but it's not. It gives you a taste of the virtual game Darkforce then takes off like a rocket with spies, lies, murder, and mayhem. Darkforce is a video game that the fourth horseman of the apocalypse has created that has become super popular. I like the way the author took characters and incidents in the bible and built on them and their story. I'm not a very religious person, but I know enough to understand what was being referred to. This book has taken figures from the bible but it's not a religious story. It’s a story that takes biblical figures and builds on their story and what happened to their descendants.
There is a fifth horseman that was left out of the stories about the end of the world, and he's about to ruin the fourth horseman's plans in a major way. Lily is an undercover agent that has been watching a couple of different people, but is taken by surprise when the truth about these people start to come out. Lily’s boss is willing to do whatever it takes to keep his secrets hidden, but her boyfriend becomes tangled up in everything throwing everything and everyone for a loop. However, Lily has her own secret destiny that makes her a major player in the end of days.
Technology has become more integrated into people’s lives starting with a chip that is implanted in people. Only there is a nasty little secret about the way those chips work, and how they will help bring down mankind. There are a couple of fringe characters that are followed and at first I wondered why, it seemed more outside the story than necessary, but in the end the experience of these characters provides a view of things on a larger scale when things start to go way south. There is violence with some hacking, slashing, and shooting but no explicit adult content.

About R. M. Mulder
Most of his friends from High School still don't even know his first name. Known only as either "Mulder" or "Agent", there was an unforgettable moment when a girl he was dating expressed her confusion when a friend approached him and called him "Richard". The ongoing joke was "Hey Mulder, where's Scully?" Ironically he later married a redhead...R. M. Mulder began querying agents for his novel CONQUEST back in January 2016. He then received some inspirational feedback from one of the editors involved in a query contest that had stated in part, "Honestly? Everything about this screams 'Blockbuster self-pub!!' Writing is sharp and commercial. Author has a plan. Go be Hugh Howey. I don't think querying is gonna go your way, and you've got big vision." Mulder ran with this inspiration, and has since become an Amazon Bestselling Author.
His book CONQUEST also won 1st Place as Favorite Dystopian Book during Virtual FantasyCon 2016.
Mulder invests his time and talents in his upcoming LitRPG miniseries which carry on the story of the Conquest Saga. Stay tuned by joining his newsletter for all the news about upcoming releases, super sales, and reader perks! http://newsletter.RMMulder.com
