How do you choose a side, when everybody lies?

A hidden world readying for war. A woman destined to tip the balance. But how do you choose a side, when everybody lies?

Sapphira Dawn was told she was the new Goddess Incarnate, the most powerful being on Earth.

At nineteen, she didn’t feel powerful – she felt betrayed and angry.

Suddenly thrust into a world that she knows nothing about, a world where magic and monsters actually exist, Sapphira races to learn all she can about her magic.

And to find her place in this dangerous new world.

Some of the monsters want to use her, the others just want her dead.

But can she gain the knowledge needed to stop an impending war before it spills into the human realm she once called home?

Interview with B.L. Callaghan

Welcome to JB’s Bookworms with Brandy Mulder

Tell us about your newest book.

My newest release is Awaken (Goddess Incarnate 1)

It follows Sapphira, a nineteen-year-old Australian woman, as she is thrown into a world she knew nothing about – magic, monsters, gods, and mayhem. She’s told that she is the Goddess Incarnate – a god of reincarnation, but doesn’t believe it. I mean, who would?!

Saph has to catch up on a lot – like figuring out her magic. Even her place in the world.

And on top of all that, she’s supposed to tip the balance in an eons-old game between some pretty nasty creatures!

Sapphira isn’t your typical hero, though. She isn’t instantly good at anything, she can’t fight and is totally trusting of everyone around her. You get to see her struggle and grow while she processes everything – and tries to stay alive.

Writing isn’t easy. What was the most difficult thing you dealt with when writing your newest book?

Finding enough hours in the day to get things done! I’m a writer and a foster mum – so my house is always chaotic!

Tell us a little bit about your writing career.

I’ve been writing since I was little, but the first books I’ve published were in mid-2020! They were the first 4 picture books in my Kids in Care series. So my writing ‘career’ is still in its infancy! I am enjoying the ride so far, and love hearing from readers! I’m excited to see how it grows from here!

They say Hind-sight is 20/20. If you could give advice to the writer you were the first time you sat down to write, what would it be?

Don’t get caught up in the what-if’s of writing, and don’t write what you think others want to hear – just write whatever you want! Keep practicing, and don’t ever stop reading the genres that you love. Experience builds knowledge – so experience all that you can!

What was your most difficult scene to write?

I find battle scenes and romantic scenes the most difficult to write – I rewrote the ones in Awaken so many times before settling on the scenes that finally made it into the book. Also, without too many spoilers; there is a death scene in Awaken that took me weeks to write because I was super upset about it.

Are themes a big part of your stories, or not so much?

I think they are subtle enough to not overpower the plot, allowing the reader to discover and interpret them as they go.

What are you working on now?

I’m currently working on the rest of the Goddess Incarnate series, the next few Kids in Care books – and three new projects!

Is there a release date planned?

Nothing set as yet, but keep an eye out!

Who is your favorite character from your own stories, and why?

I feel the most connected to Sapphira from Awaken. That’s probably because I’ve spent the most amount of time with her. She has a personality that I relate to as well – kinda fumbling through life, trusting those around her, and her temper is crazy!

Most writers were readers as children. What was your favorite book in grade school?

I honestly don’t remember! I always had a pile of books on the go and loved so many that none really held the top spot for long.

What are your plans for future projects?

My plan is to keep writing – to get all of the projects I’m working on finished. And out into the world for readers to get their hands on!

Is there anything you would like to add before we finish?

I can't think of anything, but thank you for your time!

Good luck with your newest release, and thank you for being with us today.

Thank you, it was a pleasure!
