Interview with Kristi Jun

Welcome to JB’s Bookworms with Brandy Mulder, tell us about your newest book.

My newest book is SAVE MY HEART, my first romantic thriller. This book has three POVs: Hero Jack Lawson, Heroine Jodi Lamont, and Vallin, Edward Gunn.

This story takes place in a fictional town, Bayrock Maine. There is a serial killer and I go into Ed’s deep POV as to why he is the way he is and why he does what he does. He is an interesting fellow.

There is a relationship theme woven into the book. This story is Jodi’s journey, although the hero has his own issues to resolve. She is a very unsure of herself in the beginning and grows tremendously throughout the book.

Writing isn’t easy. What was the most difficult thing you dealt with when writing your newest book?

The most difficult part about writing this book was digging deep and understanding Jodi’s conflict, her issues, and the whys behind her choices. I write organically so I let the story develop as I write and sometimes I don’t figure out what the story is about (the issues and conflict) until I am at the end of the book.

Tell us a little about your writing career.

I wrote my first book in 5th grade. I was an English Learner, so technical part of writing didn’t come easy. The stories kept coming, though.

I didn’t take writing seriously until I started my first book, Enemy’s Kiss, in college. I finally finished it ten years later. This book won multiple awards. This was my first published work.

Fast forward several years, I published my second novel which did really well. Then my 3rd book was published that same year and my 4th book the year after that.

Then I took a year off to spend time with my mom because she was dying of pancreatic cancer and I had a transplant after she passed.

Now here I am ready to release my 5th book, a new romantic thriller. So excited.

They say Hind-sight is 20/20. If you could give advice to the writer you were the first time you sat down to write, what would it be?

Don’t let insecurities and fear stop you. Feel it and move forward. It’s part of the journey. Everything will be okay.

What was your most difficult scene to write?

Sex and fight scene. It’s really hard for me. I don’t know why, but I always struggle with it.

Are themes a big part of your stories, or not so much?

Sort of. The theme that always seems to show up in my books is parent/family conflict. Redemption and forgiveness are another one.

I don’t know if this falls under theme, but I always have mystery theme to my stories.

What are you working on now?

SAVE MY HEART, a new romantic thriller that takes place in a fictional town, Bayrock, Maine.

This story had a sympathy heroine, alpha male and a psychotic villain.

Is there a release date planned?

It will be out on August 1st. There is a preorder going on right now on Amazon.

Who is your favorite character from your own stories, and why?

My favorite character right now is Charles Davenport from my upcoming book, Sinful Thoughts. It’s a 4th book in the Sinful Ladies of London series.

He is a very interesting man. His mother is a concubine in the Forbidden City—emperor’s favorite. She falls in love with an English Lord (envoy).

Charles has so many issues to work through: Abandonment by his mother, resentment toward his father and anger towards society that he is but isn’t part of.

Most writers were readers as children. What was your favorite book in grade school?

Agatha Christie

My 5th grade teacher would read it to us in class. I loved it. Such clever writing and love the mystery, too.

What are your plans for future projects?

I have three books that are coming out this year.

Romantic Thriller, SAVE MY HEART, Book 1 of Jodi Lamont Novels (August 1st 2021)

Regency, Sinful Thoughts (October 2021)

Christmas Rom-con, little to be announced (November 2021)

Is there anything you would like to add before we finish?

Come check out my new book, SAVE MY HEART. It’s on sale for .99 cents. The price will increase on release day to 2.99, August 1st.

Good luck with Save my Heart, and thank you for being with us today.

Thank you for having me on today!
