My Top Five Romantic Suspense Books | Lily Ragley
As a book lover, it is impossible to pick my top favorites. Since my focus as a writer is on romantic suspense, I have included some of my top novels in this thrilling genre:
- Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier
The original novel–dare I say–that sparked the romantic
suspense genre. I love the gothic atmospheric tension as the no-named heroine
tries to uncover what happened to her husband’s first wife. It has a fantastic
blend of suspense and character development, as the heroine starts to come into
her own and takes control of her home.
- No Place Like Home by Mary
Higgins Clark
Clark is the queen of psychological romantic suspense. This
one is my favorite of hers because it sucks you into the mind of the heroine,
who feels like she’s starting to lose control of reality. Her past trauma
blends with the present murders chillingly.
- Chill Factor by Sandra Brown
When I need a good dose of steam with my mystery,
Brown is my go-to. This book wonderfully merges suspenseful tension with sexual
tension–especially when the main characters are snowed in an isolated cabin.
- Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard
A classic serial killer novel, but with a surprisingly funny
bone. I never imagined humor and fun romance going so well with a murder
mystery. But this book pulls it off. It takes you from lighter to darker
moments so seamlessly.
- Angels Fall by Nora Roberts
I fell in love with Roberts’ romance novels first, so when I
stumbled upon her suspense novels, I devoured them. They are lighter on the
suspense, but I loved this one. I really felt for the heroine as she grapples
with PTSD after surviving a horrific shooting.
